With effect from 25 February 2014, all private landlords of properties in Northern Ireland must register under the Landlord Registration Scheme immediately prior to the letting of a new tenancy or where there is an existing tenancy, within twelve months.
A Landlord Registration Certification is issued and will be valid for a period of three years; at the end of the three year period there is a requirement to re-register.
The registration process can be completed in a number of ways:
- register online by visting: www.nidirect.gov.uk/landlord;
- register via the telephone helpline on +0044 300 200 7821; or
- complete a paper registration form which is available from your local council/rates office.
